About William Moorcroft and Macintyre & Co.
Before setting up his own company, William Moorcroft was employed by Macintyre & Co in 1897. He was chief designer of the art pottery studio and his first range called Florian Ware was a smashing success. Unusual at that time, he adopted the practice of signing his name, or his initials, on nearly all his pieces. Without a doubt ‘Florian Ware’ was his most spectacular collection and highly sought after. Interestingly it is said he was dismissed after the collection became so popular and overshadowed the firm.
