Moorcroft Saadian Prestige 19” Ginger Jar 10 Made Shirley Hayes First Mint

Shirley Hayes Saadian design derived from a Moroccan Kings abandoned Palace in shades of Jade green, aquamarine, purple, mauve, oatmeal and blue. As a commercial lawyer Hugh Edwards had seen these colour combinations often in travels to the region. He loved Saadian the moment he first sat eyes on it. The Design Studio like William de Morgan had absorbed the distinctive colour and style as a design inspiration. The range was introduced in the 2002 catalog in eleven individual shapes, all eagerly snatched up by collectors.
Only ten of the Prestige Ginger Jars were made, a very difficult piece to fire. It was shown during an exposition of Moorcroft Pottery at the British Museum who acquired one of the ten. One sits in pride of place in Hugh Edwards den on an arts and crafts table. One was broken in shipment to Canada and I acquired two of the magnificent pieces in 2002.
Signed under the glaze by Shirley Hayes, dated May 22, 2002 and the usual Moorcroft trademarks, tubeliners and painters initials. The Jar was tubelined by Gilliam Powell and painted by Sue Pointon, both highly skilled long term employees at Moorcroft. On the 576/18 shape the Ginger Jar measures 19" tall by 14" wide, the top measures 10" wide and 3 3/4" deep.
First quality and in mint condition. Very minor crazing is noticed on some the white blossoms of the design. This is seen only on very close examination. Protective felt feet have been used between the rim of the Jar and top as well as on the bottom.
I have shown the Ginger Jar next to the Saadian 10" Vase to give you a better appreciation of its size. This will be sent professionally wrapped and fully insured. If shipping is less I will reimburse, if more I will absorb the costs.
This is a rare offering in a very hard to find piece for the most discriminating collector.

For your consideration is a beautiful, old MOORCROFT England Art Pottery Orchid Vase with impressed stamp mark (
c1928-1949), signature and "Potter HM Queen". It measures 6" high and has an overall diameter of 4.5" wide (opening diameter measures 1 3/4"). The vase has a small crack on the inside of the top edge, which is almost unnoticeable on display (see last two photos for details. Other that the aforementioned isssue, it is in great condition.
