This is a Vintage 9 1/2" Dinner Plate made by Blue Ridge Southern Pottery, USA, in the 'Laurel Wreath Petunia' pattern, feature a wreath of 2 Red and 2 Blue petunias with green leaves around the rim. There is no red trim on the rim. These pieces were all hand painted and many variations in the same pattern are found. It was made in the Colonial shape, in the 1940's, and the marking on the underside is in script. There are a few paper thin utensil marks; no cracks. There is no crazing. There is a tiny 4mm triangular mark on the top and a slight indentation on each side ~ a chip into the glaze (last picture). There is also some areas of tan discoloration on the plate which appear to be from the manufacturing process. Here's a rare plate by Southern Potteries Inc, Blue Ridge Pottery, in their "Chicken Pickins" pattern. My research indicates that Chicken Pickins was manufactured in the late 1940s, possibly into the early 1950s. It was made on the "Skyline" body and is number 4206. The central design is a hen and rooster, along with a section of black fence. It is trimmed in coordinating green and red swipes of color.
The plate measures 9 1/4" diameter. It has no chips, nicks or cracks. There are utensil marks on the eating surface, evident when held in reflective light, from normal use. The glossy surface is not badly worn, in my opinion, but the marks are there. I am originally listing a quantity of 6 of these plates. All of them are in the same condition and have the same Blue Ridge mark. Please note that minor manufacturing flaws, common with this pottery, may be present but nothing that detracts.
