Graded pieces have such a slight imperfection that it is not felt significant enough to downgrade it to Seconds and as such the base is marked with a Gr. Seconds are signified by either a silver line or a red dot on the base.

BEAUTIFUL BARNARD ~ MACINTYRE GESSO FIANCE BISCUIT JAR!
Nice estate collection example and a rare piece indeed. Biscuit or cracker jar with the James Macintyre & Go Gesso Fiance Burslem, England mark on the base. In
1894 MacIntyre produced a series of designs by Wildig under the name "Washington Faience"
This was followed by the "Gesso Faience" line developed by Harry Barnard who had come to Macintyre from Doulton's and then left them in 1897 for Wedgwood. This dates our piece to 1894-97. Wonderful bluebells and chrysanthemums amid leaf fronds...just beautiful and rare to find in a utilitarian vessel. Metal lid and top rim is marked TD & Co Ld, but we have to date, not identified the mark. We believe it is further marked as electroplated, but again, the markings are carrying considerable patina and we have not disturbed it to further inspect the markings. Handle raises and lowers properly...lid lifts our and replaces nicely. Wonderful piece for your collection. Measures in at 6 & 1/8" tall to the top of the finial, exclusive of the handle.
